In Kanpla, a product is what your customers can order — for example, a meal, a drink, a snack, or a meal deal. Products must be added under the correct module (e.g., Hospitality) and assigned to a calendar, which defines when and where the product is available. This ensures that customers only see the right products at the right time and place.
When creating a product, you can also add variants.
Variants are optional choices customers can select, such as portion sizes (small/large), extra toppings (like cheese or caramel syrup), or dietary preferences (like vegetarian or gluten-free).
This helps you offer flexibility and customization in the ordering experience.
This guide is a step-by-step walkthrough showing you how to create a product to Mealplan (Shop):
Step-by-step guide:
Step 1: In the admin panel, click on “Mealplan” in the left-hand navigation.
Step 2: Select your location and module
If you manage multiple locations, first choose the correct one, then select the relevant module.
Step 3: Click “+ Add product” in the top menu.
Step 4: Fill in the product details:
Name: e.g. “Lasagna”
Description (optional): Include dietary info as allergen and diet tags or other relevant notes
Price: Set the base price of the product
Category: Choose an existing category or create a new one to organize your menu
Step 5: Upload a product image
Click the image field
Upload your own image or use Unsplash to find a suitable one
Step 6: Add variants (if the product has different options)
Scroll to the “Variants” section
Click “+ Select variants”
Click “+ Create new variant”
Enter a name for the variant group (e.g. Lasagna options)
Set the minimum and maximum number of options a user must or can select
Add all relevant choices (e.g. Small, Large, Gluten-free)
Click the three dots next to each choice to set an extra cost, if needed
*If you add an extra price to a variant (like large size or extra toppings), that amount will be added on top of the base product price.
Note of caution: Some variants might be shared across other products or locations. If you change one, it could affect other products too — so double-check before making edits.
Step 7: Click “Save option”, then select the variant you just created from the variant list. Press “Save and return”, and finally click “Save and add” to apply the variant to the product.
Step 8: Click “Save” in the top right corner
Your product will now be visible in the Hospitality module and available for guests to order through the app.
